This book was previously published as three novellas. They have been revised, reedited and compiled into one volume.
A thief, brandishing a gun, wasn’t quite what Anke expected to pick up at the jewelry store…
Anke didn’t know why she bothered to get the watch fixed that her ex gave her last Christmas. She knew it would remind her of the past and her broken heart. Instead of a quick in and out, she finds herself in the middle of a robbery.
Abducted from the jewelry store by the sexiest man she had ever met, Anke finds herself attracted to the criminal, even though he had taken her hostage.
Cain forces her to leave her world behind. Now Anke finds herself in a dimension that could only be a dream or a nightmare… Or is it the fantasy and adventure of a lifetime?
Sunlight filtered through the umbrella of pine branches above them. Cain held Dana in his arms. He had fallen in love with her and could hardly wait to make her his.
She is not the one for you.
He ignored the voice, tried to shut it out. Looking down at Dana, the blood rushed through his veins, his heart beating a staccato rhythm. He longed for her like he’d never experienced with any other woman. She wasn’t like the easy women he’d dated, the only ones he could be intimate with without going through the change, according to the advisers. Why? Because he didn’t feel anything for them except unadulterated lust. With Dana it was different…
It was the first time he’d taken a woman to the forest.
She lay naked in his arms, her platinum blonde hair spread out like a silky curtain, her eyes darkened with passion. She was ready for him, oh, so ready. He fumbled with his belt, the buttons of his jeans, then pushed them down.
He kicked off his runners, managed to get the jeans off by using his feet, then held her tight against his body.
“Cain, I want you,” Dana whispered against his lips.
Is this real love? Have I found my life-partner? But the change hasn’t begun…it’s supposed to if she’s my soulmate. Cain pushed the thoughts aside and kissed her, his tongue exploring, seeking, dancing with hers. She arched up against him. He felt her breasts press against his chest, her hips gyrating against him.
“Not so fast,” he told her softly. “Let’s really enjoy this first time.”
He nibbled at her earlobe, then rained small kisses all the way down to her breasts. He took a nipple into his mouth and sucked it.
He was taking a huge risk. If she were the one, if this was true love, he should be feeling the change by now, the change that could scare her away forever. Why hadn’t it begun? He had held off making love to her for that very reason. He had to slow down. He needed to tell her carefully about himself first.
“Dana, stop. There’s something I have to tell you.” Her next words startled him. Gone was his cute sweet Dana…
“Shut up, Cain. Just fuck me. I’m horny as hell.”
“If we’re to continue our relationship, it’s important.”
“Who the fuck said I want a relationship? Sure, we’ve dated a few times. Hell, you’re a good time guy. And a looker, too, baby, but I’m not interested in something permanent.”
Had someone just dumped a bucket of ice over him? His cock was limp now, his desire doused.
“I thought we had something real going here.”
“You thought wrong, babe. I’m too young to get serious.”
He let go of her and stood. His heart had just taken a jolt. For the first time in his life, a woman had managed to hurt him. “I’ll take you home,” he said through tight lips.
“Oh, baby, don’t be like that? Come here,” she coaxed, her arms held out.
He ignored her and angrily put on his clothes. “Get dressed.”
“Oh, I like you this way. All alpha male and overpowering. Want to give me a spanking for being naughty?”
“Fine, you can walk home then.”
“Fuck you!” she shouted, her pretty face distorted with anger, her lips pouting. “I’ll find someone else to satisfy my needs.”
He waited while she put on her clothes. When she was finished, he walked ahead, back to the road, to the car.
“I don’t know what the hell I saw in you anyway. Look at that old car. You’ve obviously got no money.”
Another stab in the gut. So that’s what she was after. Someone with money. Why had she bothered going out with him at all?
After he’d dropped her off, he returned to the farm. His friends all knew who he’d been dating. They’d cautioned him, but he didn’t heed their warnings.
He parked the car. Instead of going to the main house, he went back to the forest. His favorite place was where he needed to be right now.
Anger at himself for being so blind churned within him. His body trembled, shook harder. He didn’t fight it. There was no need. As he walked, he discarded his clothes and continued on, naked.
By the time he reached the pond, he’d changed. Raising his arms to the sky, he roared, venting his frustration, then ran to the water and dove into the icy water. His anger had simmered down. What he mainly felt now was anger at himself for being so naïve.
Floating on his back, he gazed at the sky. He still felt hurt, but what was damaged the most? His heart or his pride?
She was not the one for you. You need to go to the city called Seattle soon.
You will receive instructions on your way there. It is almost time for you and the others to return to your homeworld.
We will direct you to it.
We are one person short.
You won’t be.
The voice stopped. Cain wished they would tell him more. If the advisers knew where the one missing member was, why not tell him now? Why wait? Sometimes nothing made sense to him. He sighed and swam to the shore.
