Curse or blessing—cold—it is hard to tell, but the sex is hot.

For over four hundred years he fought a curse placed on him that left him not as human but as cold. He haunted the snow banks of mountain passes and floated with the bergs on the seas. He made only a few friends as a voice without a body. Usually he made people uncomfortable. He missed his three older brothers, who had also had curses placed on them. He missed the Highlands of Scotland. But he did learn and watch, and then a strange miracle happened.

A North American native changed him back, breaking the curse. In return, he stayed with them, worked on the ice fields and lived within the cold land. Now a true Ice Princess is drawn to him. Can he find happiness?

Sitting here now, as a very rich man, he thought about the two great events in his life. Most people went through their life without ever having even one great event. The Lutsel K’e Dene Band who had adopted him and whom he represented with the Diamond Consortium in Canada’s Northwest Territories thought he was some type of special spirit. He had never been able to convince them that he was only a man with a curse that had been cured.

They were really the ones responsible for making him rich. He was responsible for seeing that they were all rich and being taken care of properly, that they had medical care, schools, and everything promised by the two major companies that came out of Europe to put in the funds that developed the mines. But he still couldn’t convince the old ones of the tribe that all the benefits came from him instead of the European investors. They felt he was a good spirit sent to save the children and give their tribe all the gifts that they had received from the work at the diamond mines, including work for their young healthy men.

Sure the foreign companies were making lots of money for the European investment, but it took a lot of funds to get it all started. Right now they were building dikes to keep the thawed water away from the pipes they were mining and to prevent the heavy pressure of the ice that moved in for most of the year from undoing the earth that they had to move to uncover the diamonds. They also had the fees and taxes that the smart Canadians put in place for the use of this land.

When he went up in the planes, the site looked like a surreal target scarring the ground. The five Aboriginal groups felt that the gods might not be happy with the ground being disturbed like this, but they all appreciated the food, the houses, and the medicine. He looked out the window on the other side, seeing the mud, and then he decided the contrast of the clean white on one side and the dark mud on the other were like the two events in his life.
