An unexpected romance can reshape and twist reality.
It was supposed to be a confrontation with a sister who never left her alone. Never let her make her own decisions. Not a vacation at all. Certainly not a time to fall head over heels into infatuation with the one perfect man of her dreams! But when Mitzi Fogarty ventures out in the pre-dawn chill of a diamond-crystal morning to watch the sun rise over the Grand Canyon, she discovers there’s a very big difference between ‘supposed to be’ and reality.
His lips are chilled.
That was Mitzi’s first thought…for a moment her only thought.
They were chilled like the night. Like the early morning, and the first frost of a long and gentle season. Like the finest wine she’d ever had the good fortune to taste. And then instantly, miraculously, the cold vanished and they were warm. So deliciously warm as they moved, a score of delightful and delighted whispers across hers. So delicious as they sought warmth from hers and then imparted it immediately back into them. Chilled, warm, seething hot. It didn’t matter. The effect was the same.
The first, most minute and all but undetectable brush of Joe’s mouth against hers imprinted itself indelibly upon her. Not just upon the quivering, receptive flesh he touched, but upon the much more tremulous, ephemeral substance beneath…upon the breath-held, scarcely awakened quiver of her psyche. That first touch, light as it was, fleeting and unexpected as it was, sent a burning, shuddering shock through her. A shock of recognition, perhaps. Or of anticipation.
For in less than the time it took Joe’s kiss to sweep its intensely destructive way across her mouth, she felt an unmistakable rocketing of heat elsewhere. Felt the long and gripping tendrils of it strike through her to her core. To the sore and long-wounded heart of her, so that she suddenly wanted him.
As simply as that.
As quickly as that.
