When life throws you a curve ball, you have to deal with it as well as you can.

When Rabbit arrived in Gillham, he was only trying to get away from his ex-boyfriend. He never expected to find a pack, a family, but he feels at home in Gillham. Finding his mate makes that feeling even stronger, at least until he realizes Elton isn’t only his mate, but also Samuel’s.

Elton’s in Gillham to visit his brother when he ends up in the middle of a spat for him. He might not know a lot about shifters and mates, but he does know that one human guy having two shifter mates isn’t normal.

Samuel is ready to fight for Elton, and really, it shouldn’t take much with how tiny Rabbit is. But Rabbit reveals himself to be stronger and more stubborn than Samuel had thought, and when Elton gives them an ultimatum, they have to learn to work together—or be without their mate.

They know a three-way mating is possible, but it doesn’t make it easy. Rabbit, Elton, and Samuel all have their own insecurities and problems. Will they manage to work around them and be happy together, or will the stress of having to share a mate make their relationship implode?

“Well, shit. I think we have a problem on our hands.”

Rabbit didn’t roll his eyes at Neriah, but having a problem was an understatement. It wasn’t a problem they had, but a tragedy. A fucking drama.

“Maybe Rabbit should sniff Samuel, just in case.”

Rabbit resisted the urge to strangle his best friend and crossed his arms over his chest. “Nope.”

“We need to be sure.”

“There’s nothing to be sure of,” Rabbit said. “Elton’s my mate, Samuel isn’t.”

Neriah threw his hands up. “What do you want to do, then? It’s obvious Elton is also Samuel’s mate.”

“It’s not.”

Samuel growled, and Rabbit arched a brow at him. He wasn’t scared of the wolf shifter—okay, maybe he was, but he didn’t think Samuel would hurt him, no matter how much he looked like he wanted to. Someone would stop him if he tried.

Right?

Neriah sighed. “Rabbit, I understand why you’re trying to resist this—”

“No, you don’t. You have one mate. One.”

“You have one mate too,” Samuel muttered.

Rabbit narrowed his eyes at him. “You’re right. I have one mate.”

“If you think I’m going to let you get Elton—”

“Oh, because you think you can stop me?” Samuel looked at Rabbit up and down. “Please. You wouldn’t be able to fight your way out of a wet paper bag.”

Rabbit tightened his hands into fists and raised them in front of his chest. “Wanna see how I fight?”

He probably wouldn’t be able to do much harm, but he was damn well going to try. He wanted to bash in Samuel’s smug face. He could almost hear his thoughts—that Rabbit wouldn’t be a good mate for Elton because he was weak and weird.

Samuel took a step forward, and Rabbit swallowed, trying to get ready for the punch that was no doubt coming his way. Instead, Elton stepped between them.

“You know, since I’m the one you guys are fighting over, I would have thought I actually had a say in this,” he drawled, looking from Samuel to Rabbit, one hand flat on each of their chests.

Samuel froze, and Rabbit stuck his tongue out at him, just because he could. Samuel glared almost hard enough to burn a hole in Rabbit’s forehead, and Rabbit grinned.

“Of course you have a say in this,” Samuel said, and Rabbit heard the unspoken words—of course, you have your say, as long as you choose me.

But Rabbit was a stubborn asshole, and he wasn’t going to give up easily. He’d done so in the past because it had been too late to do anything else, but things were different with Elton. They would be, because Rabbit would make sure of it.

“Somehow I have a hard time believing you, but I’m going to act like I didn’t hear what you weren’t saying.”

Rabbit’s smile widened. Elton was smart. Samuel wasn’t going to get his way, not easily anyway.

Elton looked at him. “You should wipe that smug smile off your face, kitty cat, because what I said doesn’t mean I’m choosing you.” He let his hands fall to his side. “Actually, I’m not choosing either of you, not until I know what the fuck is going on.”

He stepped away and went to stand by Connor. “This is fucking crazy. Do you know what’s going on? Please say yes.”

Connor looked lost, and Rabbit wasn’t surprised when Neriah stepped forward to answer the question. “You know about mates, Elton?”

Elton rolled his eyes. “Of course I do. You’re my brother’s mate. He explained. He never said anything about having two mates, though. Do you guys have a third hidden somewhere? Because I don’t really care if you’re in a threesome, although I’d never have thought Connor would do something like that. He’s too boring, and he’d freak out.”

“No, we don’t have a third. As far as I know, shifters and Nix have only one mate.”

Elton scrunched his nose, and he was fucking adorable. “So is this a mistake? I mean, they both say I’m their mate, which let me tell you, is already fucking confusing enough without adding another guy in the mix.”

“It’s not a mistake,” Samuel barked. “You’re my mate.”

Elton arched a brow. “I got that, but I’m sure you noticed the little guy who thinks I’m his mate.”

“I’m not little,” Rabbit complained.

“You’re tiny,” Samuel said, and Rabbit stepped forward, ready to punch the daylights out of the guy, or at least try. Maybe they’d end up killing each other and solve Elton’s problem.

“God, this is going to suck if you two don’t get a grip,” Elton snapped. “Look, I’m human, okay? I don’t know anything about being mates apart from what Connor told me. I’ve also never been in a threesome, so you guys need to cool it unless you want me to leave.”

“This isn’t going to be a threesome,” Samuel spat out. “I’m not sharing my mate. You’re mine.”

Rabbit opened his mouth to tell Samuel how stupid he was and that he wasn’t going to give up on Elton just because Samuel was an asshole, but Elton beat him to it.

He turned toward Samuel, his hands on his hips. “I’m yours? Really? Because the last time I checked, I was my own person and the only one who made decisions about myself. So if I want to go out with the cutie here, that’s what I’m going to do, and you don’t have anything to say about it.”
