Sadie meets Carmen whose little brother is ill. She volunteers to help others like him but first she has to face her own fears.

Sadie grew up spoiled always putting her needs before everyone else. She thought she had all that life had to offer until one day everything changed. Would her small sacrifice change the hearts and minds of others living in Chickendale?

“Aren’t they beautiful, John?” said Mrs. Hen while posing with her newly born chicks.

John replied, “Yes, they are, and now we have a family. Let me take a closer look to see our babies. Whoa! Two are yellow and the other brown.”

“Yes, two look like me and the other just like his father. He has your looks, all right,” said Mrs. Hen while John stared down at the three chicks running toward him chirping and hungry.

“Hee, hee, hee—stop, that tickles,” said John, the happy father. “Okay, follow me to get some food; ya’ll must be hungry after spending all that time in your mama’s shells.” John led them to a special trough filled full of grass clippings and grubs. “Now, chickies, after you finish eating, you must drink some water, but don’t you eat too fast or you may get a bad belly. Listen to Papa, for he knows best.”

Two of the chicks listened, but not their little brother.

“See, I told ya so. Now go rest with yer mama. She will rub yer belly until it feels better.”

“Come here, my little rascal,” said Mrs. Hen while holding out her wings to comfort her little boy who had learned his lesson. “Momma will make it better, I promise.”

John asked, “So what will their names be? Have you any ideas, Hanna?”

“Yes, I have names for them. Our first born we shall call Sadie, our second, Jackson and our third, Hedley. Do you like their names?”

“Perfect, my dear, just perfect,” replied John.

Throughout the seasons the chicks all grew up to be proud like their ma and pa, but for Sadie maybe a little too proud. Since those early days, John Rooster had raised the most successful chicken coop in all of Chickendale, although his pride and joy was Sadie, for she was his only girl. Sadie was spoiled by her father and she enjoyed the finer things in life when many others couldn’t afford such luxuries. She didn’t care just as long as she was getting all the attention.
