Just when you think it’s safe to go back in the water, shit happens…

Working together, Raz, Michaela, and Morgan seek to make Dodger immortal, but they’ll need to offer up a sacrifice. Morgan finds the perfect person, someone who is both a junkie and a Mystalic who is immune to having magic used on them. But when Morgan finds his heart unexpectedly engaged, can he carry through with the plan, even if doing so is for the greater good?

A tragic accident results in the release of the powerfully evil vampire Elusivar. Besotted with revenge and lust, he is determined to rewind time in order to regain what was lost—no matter who gets hurt in the process.

It’s Morgan against Elusivar, and neither one is willing to accept anything but complete victory. Michaela will do what she can to aid her brother in his righteous cause, even if winning comes at a very steep price.

The time has come. This is the final countdown…

Morgan watched her. Over the past few days, he’d learned all there was about her, including her name and her ancestry. She was pretty, but life on the streets was taking its toll, and this tainted dose was going to be her last. “I can offer you peace.”

Anna turned around. “What?”

He smiled. “We know what I’m talking about, what you’re hiding from your sister.”

“What I do is none of your business. Go away.”

Morgan stepped closer. “It is when you’re killing yourself.”

Anna dropped the needle and leaned on the building. “Go away.”

“Your dealer is tired, and he’s trying to be rid of you.”

“What?” She looked around.

Morgan opened his arms. “There’s no one here, no one lurking in the shadows, just me asking you to let me help you so you can help me before that dose does its job.”

“You do know that once in it can’t come out, right?” Anna shifted uneasily. “What do I get if I agree to help you?”

“I can offer you anything you want.” Morgan could see the tainted drug creeping through her veins as he vowed to get even with the dealer.

“If you know so much, you also know I won’t stay clean. I’ve tried before.” She slid down the building and sat on the ground.

Morgan offered his hand. “Would you be willing to give me a chance?”

Anna glanced at the sky, her brow furrowing. “You really think I could stay clean the fifth time?”

The drug was running its course. In a few more moments she would be puking, her stomach in more pain than most could handle. “If we agree to help each other, yes.”

“What do—” She moaned. “What do you need of me?”

Morgan knelt. “Your hand, for starters.” As her fingertips grazed his palm, he grasped her hand tightly and drew only the vile poison from her body into his. With the flick of his other hand, he sent it into the dealer. He left her the good feeling so she would be more at ease with him. “I would feel more comfortable talking away from here, from where strangers can stumble upon us.”

Anna seemed to relax. “Where do you want to go?”

“Here.” He snapped his fingers and brought them to stand in a lush field. A large oak offered shade above a blanket spread on the ground, filled with a variety drink and food.

She narrowed her gaze. “I don’t like magic tricks, mister.”

“It’s not a trick, Anna. I am one of the mages, and I command the world to my bidding. Long ago I would have just taken, without a care or thought, but I don’t want to do it the old way. I want you to want to help me.”

“Help you what?”

“Get you clean and save a friend.”

“And I get what again?”

Morgan held out his arms. “Anything you want.”

Anna eyed him. “Anything?”

“Name it.”

“How much?”

“More than I can count.”

She looked around. “I don’t see it.”

Morgan waved his hand. A mound of gold appeared. “Sufficient?”

Anna laughed. “That’s not money.”

“It’s gold.”

“Gold isn’t real.”

Morgan turned the pile into what he saw in her mind. “Better?”

The sparkle in her eyes earned his headshake.

“What if I wanted a big house?”

Morgan waved a hand. “Why don’t you ask for what you really want and not these…trinkets?”

Anna tilted her head. “What do I really want?”

“For your sister to be happy.”

Her smile was sad. “You can’t do that.”

Morgan raised an eyebrow. “As the black mage, I can do anything but create life.”

“B-black mage?”

He nodded. “Yes.”

Anna backed away. “There are some really ugly rumors about you.”

Morgan sat on the blanket and picked up an apple. “I know.” He bit the fruit and swallowed. “But do you always believe everything you hear?”

“Good. Come sit and eat. I am not that person anymore.”

Anna eased closer and sat on the opposite corner. “It was said you kill, a lot.”

“I did, and did is the key, as in past tense.”

“So that was then, and this is now?”

“What makes you different…now?”

Morgan set aside the core and picked up a glass of wine, toasting her. “My sister and mother.”

Anna narrowed her eyes. “What’d they do?”

“Kicked my ass and showed me a better life. Family have a lot of power over us.”

She sighed. “Yeah, they do.”

Morgan studied the sky thoughtfully for a moment. “If I can promise your sister’s happiness, would you agree to help me make my sister happy? And yes, think it over.”

Anna began to nibble on a sandwich and sipped some of the wine.

Morgan waited patiently, eating and drinking, watching her until their gazes met. Tears brimmed her eyes.

“You promise she’ll be happy?”

“I do, and I cannot break that promise once made.”

Anna nodded. “Okay. I’ll help you.”

Morgan stood and offered his hand. “Come with me.”

She accepted his offer and stood. “To where?”

“The citadel.” He made the trinkets vanish, snapped his fingers, and took her to his chambers. “Here is where we will work on getting you free and our sisters happy.” He was aware he had a limited amount of time to keep her in the citadel, because she was mortal, but he also knew he wouldn’t need it. “In order for this to work for both of us, I’m going to speed up time for your body. You’re going to feel it, I won’t deny that, but I’ll be beside you every second. I promise.”
