Finding love where you'd least expect it.
Jordan only wants to see what all the hubbub is about at the nearby gay bar. After all, his female friends say it's the best place to find single women. But when he gets there, a stolen kiss and broken memories lead him on a journey he never bargained for with a beautiful, young Asian man named Kira.
Inside his loft, Jordan shifted his gaze to picture windows spanning from hardwood floors to the ceiling. Light-blue eyes stared back at him in the reflection of the glass. He peered beyond and into the dark at the silhouettes of tall Mexican palms, Mesquite trees and Saguaro cacti, backlit by the twinkling lights of old Western style shops with bars and restaurants—downtown Scottsdale on a Saturday night.
His gaze halted. There it was, the building lit up like a stripper club in Vegas. He gripped a black cell phone to his ear. "I'm telling you, it's the best way to get a girl. You know how they love those gay bars."
"You've got to be kidding me. If you really want to go there, you're on your own, dude."
"Shit, Steven, don't make me beg." He raked his hand through pin-straight auburn bangs, angling down across his eyes, and adjusted the collar of a black T-shirt with a skull, cross and chain tattoo design extending from front to back.
"I won't because I'm not going." Steven let out a huff.
"Oh, come on." As he peeked at himself in the window's reflection, he noted how his lean and muscular build pulled the fabric tight across his chest. Perfect for a gay bar.
"No."
He stomped his foot. "Fine. While I'm getting it on with some hot chick, you'll be all alone." In frustration, he stabbed at the end key on the cell phone. "Asshole."
As he marched toward his granite and stainless steel kitchen, he passed a black leather sofa of Scandinavian design surrounded by sleek cherry wood accent tables.
He strode to a small table resting next to a tall front door, snatched up his keys in his fist and halted. He turned around to take a last peek at his home. His gaze caught the architecture trade magazines lying in a neat row across the coffee table. A soft chuckle sprang out of him. "Shit, maybe I am gay."
But was this really a good idea? Hell yes it was. Margie told him all the hot chicks dug that place and he was going. He peeked at the keys. It was about time he got laid. He stuffed the keys into the front pocket of his low-rise jeans, past a silver skull belt buckle. Six months without sex was enough to drive any twenty-three year old insane. And the nightmares were getting worse. At least if he had someone in his bed, he might not have one tonight.
With an about-face, he opened the door, stepped beyond it and shut it behind him. "I'm going." As he hiked down a hallway lined in dark panelling and passed craftsman style sconces, his gaze drew to the strange doorknocker a new tenant installed in the shape of a tiger and made of some green stone. Was it jade, maybe?
He shivered as he passed, ripping his attention free. Whatever it was, it reminded him of something, or a mixture of feelings he couldn't quite describe. Déjà vu, yes, that's it.
