No matter how hard you try, you can’t hold onto your childhood forever.

After the end of another school year, Big Chook along with his five friends gather to plan their holiday fun. In a desperate effort to hold onto their youth, they agree to make this the best holidays ever. But it comes at a cost. A cost so high it sees adulthood forced upon them, faster than they had ever realised possible. Will this be their last childhood adventure together?

The dark of the night was sporadically broken by precisely placed light posts, which had been dimmed. There was a frightening atmosphere that caused three friends to huddle together, while sitting on a blanket covered mattress. The sound echoing from the many speakers all around them added to the creepiness of the night, forcing the friends grip on one another to tighten with a nervous anticipation of events to come.

Their eyes were drawn to the man with the clothes as black as his hair. The dull lighting in the room, in which he sat, made his face look sickly pale. The absence of light also helped to hide the colour of his eyes, but it couldn’t hide the seriousness in his stare. A stare that was focused on a young girl of twelve.

Her once pretty light brown eyes, now as black as the darkest night. The pretty long blonde hair she once wore in tidy ponytails, a mess of twisted knots. Non-bleeding cuts and scratches covered her face and a drip tube came from her nose. Her arms had been restrained to the corners of the bed, which she lay, for her own safety as well as his. She gazed at him with a deathly stare then her eyes turned yellow as she turned her head and was about to speak.

Her demonic voice had sent shivers down the friend’s backs on previous occasions and with the knowledge of what was coming, their grip on one another tightened further.

“Rahhhh!” Wally screamed, as he jumped up from behind the friends and grabbed at them.

“Argh!” Big Chook, Kirstin and Pete screamed in unison and grasped desperately for one another, while hurriedly spinning to see whom it was.

“Wally you shit,” Kirstin shrieked, while slapping him on the shoulder as he sat down beside her. “I have to go to the loo now and I really don’t feel like going in there alone right at this point in time.”

“I’ll come in with you.” Wally winked and gave a cheeky smile.

“Like that’s going to happen,” Kirstin retorted and turned to Big Chook. “Will you come?”

“Um, I guess so,” Big Chook said with innocent eyes.

Wally watched the pair get up from the mattress and climb the railing to go down the stairs. Pete noticed the prolong stare and shook his head.

“Watch the movie Wally,” Pete said.

Wally smiled as he glanced at his closest friend and leaned back on the mattress. “It’s really not that a good a movie.”

Thanks to Wally’s father being good friends with JD, the drive-in owner, who doubled as the projectionist, they had the best seats in the place. They had been allowed to lay out a blanket on an old mattress on top of the canteen roof, which was right beside the projection room. And all the old classics were playing. Psycho (1960), The Shining (1980), Alien (1979), Halloween (1978) and the cult classic The Exorcist (1973).
