Pelo is a troubled man whose mixed ancestry of Hawaiian and Filipino has always made him feel like he has no place in either culture. He’s back home on the Big Island of Hawaii after serving time for manslaughter—for a crime he did not commit—on the mainland. A chance encounter with a newly widowed Filipina turns Pelo’s life upside down.
