Murder, sex and lies in the vibrant night life of Oxford.

Mandy Farmer and Gail Roberts run Woman to Woman, a detective agency catering for women. Catering for women who prefer not to reveal intimate secrets to a male detective. Their current investigation for wealthy Mrs. Barlow who claimed her son is missing along with some of her jewellery, takes them from run down areas of East Oxford to the high life of the central club scene.

The case seems to be progressing well until Mandy falls over Jonathan Barlow’s dead body, murdered while she was sleeping in his bed. She suspects that she may be the next target of the killer.

Can the two detectives discover who the murderer is and recover the stolen jewellery? Will Gail be able to help Mandy avoid being the next victim?

Mandy Farmer was bored. Observations such as this always bored her. She ran her hand through her long red hair in frustration as she sat in her Rav 4x4 and stared at the second floor window across the street from where she had parked. Through her binoculars she could see the drawn blinds that indicated her subjects were still there, so nothing was happening to alleviate that boredom.

The man she was watching had been visiting with the woman in apartment two for over three hours and Mandy was waiting for them to leave so she could gather convincing evidence of his infidelity. However, on this occasion, he did not seem to be in any hurry to leave his mistress.

Mandy yawned and took a sip from her can of Pepsi, glanced at her watch and sighed deeply. It was two PM already and she was hungry for she had not eaten since breakfast and wished she had thought of bringing along a sandwich as well as her drink. She just had not expected them to take so long this time—their assignations usually lasted no more than an hour.

She knew, as did the man’s long suffering wife, that he was having an affair. However, she needed proof. Mandy looked at her scribbled notes, each with the time annotated alongside the entry. There was precious little written yet, just arrivals and departures, never both parties together, always individually. Glancing at the controls of her Nikon, she made sure she had it on the right setting. She wished the man would hurry up and leave so she could take her pictures and go and get some lunch.

Absentmindedly she did some small sketches on her notepad then was surprised to see she had drawn pictures of an impossibly large penis with little wings. It was flying off into the distance and she wondered what a shrink would make of it. Perhaps he would say she had a repressed sexual deviation, whatever that would mean. She sighed as she obliterated the drawing with a few strokes of her pencil.

She stirred in the car seat, stretched her long legs as far as she could to ease the numbness in her rounded bottom. She wondered if she would ever have sex again, proper sex, with a man. She had not been with a man since Bruce had broken it off with her more than six months previous. Her array of vibrators had begun to bore her, even though they got her off nicely. However, she longed for the feel of a man inside her, hot and pulsating, throbbing and exciting her as only a man could. A man who would love her until she begged him to stop, but even so, she would not let him, not until he had driven her to her climax, still deeply embedded inside her, her legs wrapped about him, holding him tightly to her. She sighed deeply again as her thoughts aroused her. Her thoughts’ arousing her was something that seemed to happen on a regular basis these days.

Her hand strayed to her lap where she could feel the heat coming from between her legs. The musky aroma of her arousal made her realise how much she missed the feel of a man beside her, the warmth of his naked body and feel of his skin under her touch. She stroked the seam of her jeans between her legs, closed her eyes for a second, and imagined it was George Clooney or Sean Penn, or even the guy who lived four doors from her doing it to her. She groaned in frustration. She really needed to get home so she could satisfy the desperate urge that had started to invade her loins. She pressed herself harder with her fingers and wondered why thinking as she did made her so damn horny, perhaps it was another question for a shrink to ponder.

A man walking a dog strolled past and he looked curiously through the car window at her. She flushed and guiltily snatched her hand away from between her legs, sure he had known what she was doing.

Some cars passed in the street but very few pedestrians walked by, apart from the nosey dog walker, otherwise it was a quiet backwater, well away from the main roads. The daytime love nest, where the man and woman met two or three times each week, made her wish she had somewhere to go—where a man would be waiting to make love to her all afternoon, and long into the night if necessary. However, in this case the subject would go back to his work as an architect with one of the top firms in Oxford, and the woman would return to her humdrum life as a housewife in the suburbs. Her naughty moment of elicit passion over. For a few days at least.

Mandy and her friend, Gail Roberts ran Woman to Woman Enquiries. An agency that catered to women who need the help of a detective and would feel more comfortable telling their sordid secrets to another woman instead of a male detective. Often their cases were of this nature, waiting, watching and observing. Always hoping to catch an unwary man cheating on his wife.

The exit door to the apartments opened. Hello, here we go, Mandy thought, eagerly picking up her camera as a man walked out of the apartment building and strode purposefully along the pavement carrying a briefcase. She groaned when she realised he was not her target after all. She glanced at her watch again. On this occasion, the target was taking a long time and she wondered what was keeping him. I could make a guess what they are doing, she thought and gave a rueful smile. For the sake of doing something, she fiddled with the controls of her camera again.
