The Posers is a series of two separate stories about love at first sight and playing roles. In ‘Jackie’, Jackson agrees to help his best friend get through a family holiday by posing as his girlfriend, and then meets the man on his dreams. In “Mercy” a former porn star agrees to help someone make their ex jealous by posing as someone’s boyfriend and finds he’s the odd man out. Both Jackie, and Mercy discover that true love accepts nothing less than the truth, and honesty begins with oneself.

"You look gorgeous," Hank said, standing back to admire his work from one angle than the other.

Jackson hardly recognized himself. Hank had transformed his collar length dark blond hair into bangs and a square cut that swung around his face as he moved. With the makeup, expertly applied to look natural, the only thing left that was male about him were his clothes. "I hardly recognize myself. One problem though, after this is over, how in the hell am I supposed to walk around in men's clothes with a haircut like this?"

"When you come back, I'll get rid of the bangs and cut it short, minus the swing." He laughed.

"Okay."

"Now, you remember how you're supposed to apply that makeup, right?"

"Yeah, I'll do all right. We covered makeup at the institute last term."

"And what about your clothes?"

"I went shopping with Karl and I'm all set."

"Don't forget the boobs."

Jackson grinned. "I won't."

"Are you sure you want to do this?"

"I'm in neck deep now," Jackson said. "Besides, Karl got me a new job, he's paying my lost wages and a bonus on top of that."

"Poor boy, why doesn't he just tell them?"

"He promises me he will. It's just that this holiday is special."

"You know, I don't believe him."

Jackson sighed, staring at the strange reflection in the mirror. "I can't force him. Okay, I got to go. I'll just call Karl and get him to pick me up. Then I have to dress and pack."

"Happy Holidays," Hank said, kissing him on both cheeks.

"You, too," Jackson said, and dialed Karl's cell.

On the way home, Karl kept glancing at him.

"Stop it."

"You're so pretty."

Jackson laughed, raising the pitch of his voice a little. "Why thank you, handsome." He'd always had a fine voice so it wasn't as if it was a strain to sound female.

Karl laughed.

Two hours later, Jackson was packed and dressed. He'd chosen a pair of ladies-relaxed cut jeans and a pale mauve blouse, which fell at the hip. It was a little frilly, but it made the jeans seem dressy. He chose a purple coat sweater to go over top. Karl had bought him a long, black winter coat with matching gloves and boots. He was all set.

"Do you have everything?" Karl asked.

"Makeup, bras, hair dryer and so on. Should I take my birth control pills as well?" He batted his eyes.

"You told me I wasn't getting any, remember?" Karl smirked.

"Oh yeah, I won't need them. My God, women cart around a lot of stuff."

Karl nodded and got behind the wheel.

"You better go over what you told your family about me so I'll get the story straight," Jackson said, settling in beside him.

"Okay, you're twenty-four. You're name is Jackie Cross. You're originally from Detroit. Your parents are both in business…exporters."

"Are we rich?"

"Comfortable."

"Do I have brothers and sisters?"

"Only child. Oh, and you're a nurse."

"Nurse?" Jackson bleated. "Karl, I don't know anything about nursing."

"Just don't talk about it."

Jackson rolled his eyes. "Okay, what else?"

"We met at the hospital. I had a bad case of the flu and you treated me in the emergency room."

"How romantic! Nothing says love at first sight like a guy coughing up phlegm."

"Very cute. You found out my address and brought me over some chicken soup. Then I asked you out."

"Boy I was desperate. Chicken soup? And you jumped my bones, before or after the chicken soup?"

"Ha, ha. Anyway, just follow my lead."

Jackson saluted him. "Will do, master, just don't trip over your own tongue."
