When Rural Firefighter, forty-year-old Zech Larsson meets the Brigade’s new recruit, Nathan Harris, he’s inexplicably attracted to the twenty-year-old. Apart from an obvious age difference, there just happens to be one other problem. Zech is straight—or so he thought.
Nathan, born to an Indian mother and an Australian father is good looking and gay although, technically he’s still a virgin. He’d been about to change his status in that regard when his homophobe father had interrupted at the crucial moment, and Nathan was subsequently exiled to live with his equally prejudiced aunt who happens to loathe not just gays but Indians as well.
Mutually attracted, Zech and Nathan’s lives soon intertwine. When Nathan’s redneck cousin arrives on the scene and subjects him to violent abuse, Zech intervenes and moves Nathan into his own home. Faced with the temptation of Nathan sleeping across the hallway, Zech’s defenses gradually crumble until finally, he surrenders. Then, Nathan is viciously attacked and left unconscious and severely injured.
Zech blames himself for what’s happened as he finally admits that not only has he fallen for Nathan but that he’s also gay. As Nathan recovers, they begin to build a relationship and explore their sexuality. When people and lack of communication cause Nathan to question their relationship, it’s up to Zech to convince him to stay.
With Nathan finally returned to active duty following his injuries, they face their greatest challenge when they are confronted by an out of control wildfire. The odds of survival are stacked against them as they struggle when the fire overwhelms and eventually destroys their fire truck.
