#100-A celebration of the work fromErotic Romance Author Charlie Richards
Hardworking. Dedicated to her craft. An imagination to envy. Caring. Loyal to her readers. Professional. These are just a few ways to describe Charlie Richards. March 15th marks a huge milestone in the writing career of Charlie Richards. We celebrate the release of Charlie’s 100th title at EXtasy Books! Charlie has accomplished what many authors dream of doing. She has turned her love of writing into a rewarding career with raving fans around the world. Some of her stories are contemporary romance while many of her stories explore the worlds of gargoyles, shifters, and creatures of the paranormal! We asked Charlie a few questions to let her readers get to know her a little better:
EXtasy: How old you were you when you realized you wanted to be a writer? Have you always liked to write?
Charlie: Yes, I've always enjoyed writing. I remember penning a horribly spelled tale about getting my first pound puppy, cocoa, when I was five. =D
EXtasy: Who was your favourite author as a child?
Charlie: Growing up, I had a number of favourites - Piers Anthony, Terry Brooks, & just about any author that wrote Star Trek & Star Wars books.
EXtasy: What 3 books have made the biggest impression on you?
Charlie: I can only pick 3? Ha ha. How about 3 series. ;) Piers Anthony's Xanth series - Terry Brooks' Shannara series - LE Modesitt Jr's Spellsong Cycle series
EXtasy: What things have you read that has helped your writing?
Charlie: I’m afraid I can't be specific. I've taken a number of courses, one that earned me a Freelance Writing degree, then another online course that focused on tightening up writing & learning your audience - then a 3rd about writing query letters, outlines, and synopsis. All of them were well worth the time, money, & effort. There is always something more to learn.
EXtasy: What authors have inspired you?
Charlie: See answers 2 & 3
EXtasy: You have written 7 different series, plus 5 different stand alone books. Which series have you found the most difficult to write?
Charlie: I would say the Carry Me series is the most difficult to write. It's not paranormal, so I can't just make stuff up when I want. Ha ha. ;)
EXtasy: With so many characters in different series- how do you keep them all straight?
Charlie: I don't. Let me assure you, I try. I try very hard, but I make mistakes. I have a list for each series where I write the book's titles, character names, descriptions, place names, secondary character info. Still, I manage to miss stuff and, on occasion, my fans let me know.
EXtasy: What do you do to get past "writer's block"?
Charlie: I shut down the computer & walk away. During that time I read, cross-stitch, watch TV, horseback ride, & my favourite - my hubby takes me on 4-wheeler & motorcycle rides. Those are the best, because I can shut off my mind and just enjoy the scenery. =)
EXtasy: What do you have planned for the future of your series? Do you have any new ones you are working on?
Charlie: I have 2 more planned books for the Highland Dragons series, then I will call it complete. I am returning to an old idea regarding Nixie spirits and beginning an official Briny Nix series this year. It has mermen & exotic sea creatures in it, so I'm excited about it.
EXtasy: Can you name 3 things about yourself that readers might find interesting?
Charlie: Hmm... three interesting things... Well, I don't care if my socks don't match. Sometimes I don't leave the property for weeks at a time, because my husband takes such amazing care of me & just about everything else. Ha ha. And finally, I drive my husband nuts because I'm willing to take in unrideable horses that need a home (we have 2 on property, at the moment, and I've re-homed 1 because she became rideable again).
At EXtasy Books we are so grateful to have been part of this journey with you Charlie :)
