“Oh I see,” Belinda replied. “I know Eleanor has an uncle and aunty in Port Macquarie. Maybe I could find them, or maybe you might know them.”

“I think I might, at that,” the man said. “Some people only a short distance from here have mentioned a niece in Kempsey by the name of Eleanor. You might do well to ask them. Just walk down this street and turn left. It’s the green house on the next corner.”

Belinda thanked the man for his help, waved goodbye to him, and set off to find Eleanor’s uncle.

A safety message for the beach. Belinda ventures outside of the safety flags at the beach. What will happen to...

Eleanor set about getting Belinda clean, and then dressed her in her very best clothes. She looked an absolute picture when Eleanor had finished.

“Now, you stay pretty and don’t get dirty while I get ready,” Eleanor said.

“Okay,” Belinda replied, “I won’t play in the dirt, I promise.”

Eleanor went to have a bath and get dressed, and then went to find Belinda. She looked around outside, but could not see her.

“Have you seen Belinda?” she asked her mother.

“Yes, I saw her go outside, and I told her not to get dirty. She promised me that she would not play in the dirt.”

“She promised me that, too, after I told her the same thing. I hope she keeps her promise.”

Eleanor went outside again to search for Belinda. This time at the bottom of the garden, Eleanor noticed the door of the garden shed was open. When Eleanor peeped through, the door she saw the funniest sight.

Belinda Goes On A Picnic

A safety message when on a picnic. Belinda wanders into a forest and becomes lost. What will become of her?

Excerpt: Belinda followed the bird into the nearby forest and saw her land in a small tree. Belinda had been told not to climb trees, as she could easily fall and hurt herself, but this was only a small tree and easy to climb, and the nest was not that far from the ground. By being very careful and holding firmly to a strong branch, she was able to see into the nest.

“Oh, how cute,” Belinda said as she looked into the nest and saw two baby birds with no feathers and their great yellow beaks open as they squawked loudly.

Belinda watched the mother bird feed the chicks for a while, and then climbed down the tree. On reaching the ground, she noticed some lovely wild flowers, so she decided to pick a few. As she wandered along gathering flowers, she was unaware that she was moving deeper and deeper into the forest.

All of a sudden, she stopped and looked around. All she could see was trees and bushes, and no sign of Eleanor or her mother. “Oh dear,” she said. “I must be lost.” She was about to cry.
