In ancient times Trolls lived under bridges and charged gold for anyone who wanted to cross over. Now, if you lived in modern Chicago where all the bridges are free, no one worried about the ugly little guys, right? Yet here was the investigation team, looking in tunnels for short people, all because of a hole in the ground.

Sandy just wanted to look at the sinkhole. No one had heard of a sinkhole anywhere except Florida, but here was one in a nice neighborhood on the outskirts of Chicago.
Looking at the hole means that the team of a lawyer and vampire will once again come to the rescue of their partner as she falls into the dangerous hands of a Troll King who wants gold and power and the pretty partner who slides down underground into tunnels filled with giant moles, ferrets, groundhogs and whatever else desires to live below the surface.

Tammy, the daytime receptionist for the Investigation partnership, was at her desk in the front lobby working on the accounting program.

She ignored the street people who used her office to cool off from the normal-for-late-August steaming heat of Chicago. Tammy no longer asked their business for being there, as each would give some strange answer that was not worth following up and would return in a few days after she threw them out. Besides, most would leave at eleven when the free lunch places opened.

Tammy looked up in surprise as Tom Moore entered. A neat suit and briefcase made him stand out in this crowd.

“Good morning, Mr. Moore. Latest newspapers and mail is on Ms. Moore’s desk. Can I get you anything special?”

Tom looked around at the people sitting or sleeping in the mismatched chairs. “No thank you, Tammy. I had to get Sandy up early, so just to give you a warning, she will not be in one of her happy moods.”

Tammy was grateful for the warning. She liked Sandy Moore, the fun partner of the group, but knew the pretty woman was one who disliked mornings.

She almost never saw the third partner of the group. The tall, handsome man with white hair just left her uncomfortable, even though she was drawn to him if he looked at her too long with those sexy black eyes.

Tammy had finished almost all the month’s posting before the front door flew open. Yep, it was Sandy with one of those giant paper cups of coffee in one hand and her oversized carry-all she called a purse in the other. One shoe was hooked up with the purse as Sandy hobbled, the other four-inch shoe with the thick sole still on her foot.

Sandy made her way across the office to go into the inner space that was the office for the partners. She had her long dark hair tied back into a ponytail with strands flying loose around her face. With no makeup, her pale brown eyes looked like they were still asleep. Sandy’s attention span was one of the reasons both Tom and Rain refused to allow her to drive. She thought she could drive even if not awake.
